Hey y’all!! This week I’m focusing on one of my absolutely favorite fashion accessories… shoes! As you probably know by now, I’m a total shoe girl, and I’m always on the look out for funky new booties, heels, and everything in between. In my opinion, there is nothing a great shoe can’t fix!
After all, as Carrie Bradshaw famously said, there is no such thing as too many shoes. Your shoes are what tie your whole outfit into one fabulous ensemble. Now, if you’re a shoe-lover like me or just starting your collection, here are some great tips for the best types of shoes you should have in your closet.
1. Comfy Booties
As mentioned in last week’s article, not only are these a great shoe for the fall and winter season, but also are a must-have in your shoe collection. They are the perfect option as the weather gets cooler, and pair especially great with jeans and any kind of top or jacket. Once again, I own tons of booties in different styles and designs — I encourage you to do the same!
2. Something Neutral
While I love spicing it up with bold colors and patterns, it’s good to have a few neutral pairs that are easy to match with any outfit. This way, you don’t have to think too hard if you’re rushing out the door, because you have a pair of shoes (or two) that you know will always match. Plus, having a go-to neutral pair of shoes are a great option to travel with because they are versatile and go with anything!
3. Staple Pumps
These are the quintessential must-have shoe for women. They are more of a dressier style, and can be worn to more formal events and occasions. Even though you might not wear them as often, they are still important to own — there is nothing worse than having to scramble last minute to find a pair of heels for an event! By owning a pair of pumps, you can be sure that you’re ready for any more formal social event. This is especially something to think of with the holiday season coming up.
4. Strappy Sandals
Living in Florida, you can never have too many strappy sandals. They take you from a Target shopping spree to a fun night out, and are super comfortable too! You can get flat sandals or ones with a chunky heel, whichever suits you best. Some styles are more minimalist, while others are glittery and embellished. It’s up to you which ones you choose, but you truly can’t go wrong with sandals. These are the perfect option to show off your perfectly polished toes.
5. Timeless Flats
From time to time, I like to abandon my heels in favour of something a little more comfortable… flats! Flats are great because they are usually more comfortable and easy to slip on. But just because they don’t have a heel doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style. You can find a variety of great, affordable, and fun flats at department stores such as Target (my personal favorite) or Kohl’s. I own pairs in lime green, leopard, and tons of other funky and fabulous colors. A great pair of flats will never disappoint.
6. Casual Sneakers
Another great cooler-weather option are sneakers. Ultra-comfortable and versatile, they have experienced a comeback in recent years, and they were recently spotted on several high-fashion runways (but were they really ever out of style!?). Whether yours are lace-up or slip-on, sneakers are a great casual option for girls on the go!
7. Summer Wedges
Even though summer is in the rearview mirror now, a wedge is a great option because they pair so well with dresses and shorts. While booties and sneakers pair best with pants, a wedge is a great go-to summer heel. Wedges looks best with something short — what better way to show off your great legs! Wedges are also a great option because even though they are a heel, they have much better support than a more timeless stiletto.
8. A Pop of Color
Now, most of my shoe (and clothing) collection involves pops of color and patterns, but if you are usually less adventurous in the shoe department, this is the time to invest in a pair of shoes that reveals your fun and fearless side. Whether you want to flaunt your “pop” with a bright color or funky design, I encourage you to go out of your comfort zone. This is your chance to let your shoes determine the rest of your outfit. Sometimes it’s great to let your shoes be the starting point and plan your outfit around them. I call these my “happy shoes”!
Feel free to experiment with these all of these styles using different colors and patterns. Your shoes should be a reflection of your personality, make you feel confident, and make you look your best. Ultimately, you will look best if you feel great, so choose the shoes that YOU love.
After all, as Marilyn Monroe famously once said…
“Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world.”
